Natural Healing of PCOS Patient
- Functional Medicine • March 1, 2020
Lara came into my office seeking a natural solution to her health issues. After a complete history and physical exam, I recommended a full comprehensive blood panel so we could see her blood chemistry. I also ordered a DUTCH hormone test because she was dealing with adrogenic symptoms. This is her story.
Prior to coming in to see Dr. Senyi, I had been dealing with adrenal, insulin, and sleep issues after a series of intense personal transitions. As the months passed, I began to struggle with brain fog, fatigue, and neuropathy. Things were getting so bad, it was becoming difficult to focus at my new job. Even going to the grocery store was getting to be too much. Having been diagnosed with PCOS as a teenager, I was used to checking in with doctors covered by my insurance, but I kept getting told by these doctors that all I was suffering from was anxiety and “maybe some mild insulin resistance but nothing to worry about.” Since when is pre-diabetes nothing to worry about? Diabetes runs in my family and I also have PCOS, so I knew it was time to look elsewhere for help, especially if I wanted to find a natural solution for my health problems rather than start taking an anti-depressant in addition to Metformin.
So I found Dr. Senyi through a Google search and decided to give him a call to setup a complimentary consultation. If you’ve done your research, maybe you have learned that not all providers even offer this service. During the consultation, Dr. Senyi explained his process, which included a comprehensive physical and history, along with questionnaires, and comprehensive blood work as a baseline. I decided to go ahead and book a new patient exam with Dr. Senyi. We followed up to review the various lab test results a few weeks later, and Dr. Senyi explained to me in detail what he thought was going on with me. I learned not only had I been dealing with insulin resistance, but NAFLD, systemic inflammation, and thyroid issues. No wonder I felt like a mess! Rather than prescribe me a pharmaceutical with a laundry list of horrible side effects, Dr. Senyi sent me home with a personalized treatment plan that consisted of a nutrition guide, targeted supplements, and nutraceuticals. “Let’s see,” I thought.
It has been approximately six months since I started care with Dr. Senyi and although progress was slow in the beginning, I feel like I am starting to understand how to manage my health issues. My blood sugar, energy levels, and cholesterol levels have improved, and I am even feeling well enough to go to the gym and return to weight lifting. In addition, my thyroid is starting to perk back up, and my mood has improved a great deal. While I don’t feel 100% just yet and I know I have some ways to go in terms of weight loss and hormone balance, I plan on continuing to work with Dr. Senyi, and I am eager to see where I am another 6 months from now.
